Steroid-induced Osteoporosis is better treated with Teriparatide

Steroid-induced Osteoporosis is better treated with Teriparatide

Teriparatide (Forteo) can increase the level of bone mineral density (BMD) by as much as twice when compared to oral alendronate (Fosamax), a finding disclosed in a head-to-head comparison made by investigators.
Kenneth Saag, M.D., of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his colleagues, said greater improvements in BMD at the [...]

Osteoporosis is better treated with Teriparatide than Alendronate

Forteo, the injectable form of Teriparatide, is superior to Fosamax, oral Alendronate, in a head-to-head comparison to improve bone mineral density (BMD) by as much as twice.
Kenneth Saag, M.D., of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and his colleagues, remarked that Teriparatide promotes greater increases in bone-mineral density at the spine and hip.

Adiponectin is the metabolic linkage between bone mineral density and obesity

Adiponectin is the metabolic linkage between bone mineral density and obesity

Adiponectin, a protein secreted from adipocytes, is the metabolic link that can partially explain the positive relationship between reduced susceptibility to fractures & bone mineral density and obesity, according to researchers at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Medicine, Toronto, Canada.
This study appeared in an issue of Experimental Biology and Medicine.
