Steeplechaser tested positive for Clen
The first ever steroids case was recently recorded at the Berlin championships. Jamal Chatbi, a Moroccan horse racer tested positive for Clenbuterol use during a doping test held last Saturday.
Clenbuterol is an anabolic steroid known for its fat burning properties. It has been used widely as a “dietary supplement”, although US FDA already banned the substance last 2006. The International Olympic Committee also included Clenbuterol in their list of controlled substances in sports. Clenbuterol or simply “Clen” is a substance commonly used to treat respiratory diseases such as asthma. It acts as a bronchodilator and has been the treatment of choice among horses with respiratory disorders.
Chatbi qualified in 11th place for the finals, however, he was disqualified from the world championships and received a two-year ban due to this incident. The world championships was supposed to be held on Tuesday. After he tested positive for steroids use, Chatbi waived the examination of the B sample.
According to the Australian Sports Anti-doping Agency (ASADA) rule, as long as urine sample collection is funded by the government, an athlete has the opportunity to waive the B sample (urine sample only), as well as the right to provide a written submission outlining the case.
According to Earth Times:
Berlin - Moroccan 3,000 metres steeplechaser Jamal Chatbi tested positive for the anabolic steroid clenbuterol and is suspended for the world championship final set for later Tuesday, the ruling body IAAF said.
