Computer error causes steroid violation

According to Lewisville High School officials, the reason for their violation of Section 1210 of the University Interscholastic League (IUL) Constitution and Contest Rules, was due to a software error.

The steroid protocol states that each high school should have a required percentage of students to be tested for steroid use, according to the total number of students who participate in the IUL –sanctioned sports. Lewisville High was found to have tested few students than the required. It was determined that they should have tested 44 students, however, they only have tested 11.

Although the error was detected the day they were to test the students, it was still too late to add the number of participants since the school has to get parents’ permission before a test could be conducted.

Another reason for the miscommunication was the splitting of Lewisville High campus into two, a 10th to 12th grade campus and a 9th grade campus.

According to Karen Permetti, LHS spokesperson, although they unfortunately received a probation and public reprimand due to steroid violation not caused by human error, they still praise UIL for being strict. Furthermore, she stressed that no LHS student was ever found to test positive for steroids use.

According to Lewisville Leader Star Community Newspaper:

The same technology that’s designed to make widespread testing more efficient is believed to have put Lewisville High School on probation.
